Christian Formation

          
ADULT EDUCATION
Bible Study- This group strives to help individuals to know about and to live Gospel values through learning experiences.           

ADULT EDUCATION - SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Special Programs will be listed in the Sunday Bulletin when they are being offered.  Contact  the Religious Education Office for more information.

CATECHISTS AND AIDES  
On Sunday mornings, our parish needs adults to teach our young parishioners from grades Kindergarten to eight the beliefs of our faith.  We also need aides in the classrooms to assist the teachers.  Training is available for catechists.

CHRISTIAN FORMATION 
This committee is responsible for the Spiritual Formation and Religious Education of every member of our parish.

EVANGELIZATION
This committee is for anyone who has a desire to share their faith through action and prayer and a willingness to share the love of God with others.  This group plans and implements programs and activities that enable people to experience God in Church and community through faith sharing, welcoming and reaching out. 

PARISH LIBRARY
At the present time, our books are in storage.  In the future we hope to have a library where parishioners may come and be able to borrow religious books.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
On Sunday mornings, our parish offers classes from Kindergarten to Grade 8 for children who do not attend a Catholic school.  We always are in need of adults to teach our young parishioners the beliefs of our faith.   We also need aides in the classrooms to assist the teachers.  Training is available for catechists.
 
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION  
Special classes are offered to help parents instruct their  children to celebrate the sacraments.  The Diocese of Wilmington requires a  child be enrolled in a program for two (2) consecutive years before reception of  the sacrament.  Contact the Religious Education Office for more information and/or registration.


                 Parish and Family Life


KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men’s organization dedicated to charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.  They support the parish in its entirety as well as providing spiritual and material support.  We are joined with St. Peter the Apostle Church in this ministry.   Go to our website for more information: http://home.comcast.net/~council2856/ 

SODALITY OF THE BLESSED MOTHER
The Holy Spirit Parish Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality organization is composed of women in our parish who 
meet on the first Sunday of each month, except when a holiday falls on that Sunday.   The group enhances the spiritual developmentof each member, participates in church activities (such as  fundraiser trips, dinners, etc.), and follows the direction of our pastor when called upon.   The  Sodality has been in existence since the founding of Holy Spirit Parish.  New members are always welcome.

USHERS
This group gives special assistance to people as needed at Mass.  They welcome all who come, invite members to carry up gifts and gather the collection. 

                          Social Ministry

BEREAVEMENT
This committee offers sessions twice a year to those who have lost a loved one.
 
CARING FRIENDS / PRAYER GROUP
Caring Friends visits families who have lost a loved one in death, attend the viewing and Funeral Mass.  They also send cards from the parish, visit the shut-ins during the holidays and pray for parishioners, family members, and friends whose names appear on the prayer list. 

HEALTH SERVICE
This group promotes the physical, spiritual and emotional wellness of parishioners.  The group works with parish organizations in presenting wellness programs and assisting with health needs. 

OUTREACH
Outreach is located in the Rosehill Community Center, 19 Lambson Lane.  Hours are Mondays - 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Tuesdays - 8:00 to 11:00 AM, (302) 656-8513.


                Building and Maintenance


CHURCH ENVIRONMENT / MAINTENANCE
We need parishioners who can help with light maintenance for our buildings and care for our lawns, plant and care for flower beds,  etc.  Also, this committee is looking for anyone who has a special  talent or interest in the area of art and creative use of atmosphere to  work with the Liturgy
Committee.

MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE
Our parish is always in need of  parishioners who are able to do light maintenance work, electricians,  carpenters, plumbers,  painters, etc.


                               Liturgy


ALTAR SERVERS 
Participants, both children and adults, are trained for their duties prior to their initiation as altar servers.  This is an opportunity  to serve God and the community by helping the priest and congregation in the  ritual of the Eucharist.  Candidates generally begin in fourth grade. 

ALTAR SOCIETY 
Volunteers work on keeping the church clean.  This will 
also involve caring for vestments and altar linens.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST
Eucharistic Ministers assist the priests and deacons at Sunday and weekday Masses in the distribution of Holy Communion.  In addition, they take Holy Communion to the homebound.  Training programs are required.

LECTORS 
Lectors proclaim the Word of God to the assembled   community, to let them hear the Word that is to shape their lives.  Good communication skills, clarity of diction and expression of throught, ability to project voice are needed.  participants are trained in proclamation and are expected to prayerfully approach the execution of this ministry. 


MUSIC
Holy Spirit provides many opportunities for liturgical ministry
involvement for parishioners of many ages.  The parish, along with the Diocese of Wilmington, provides instruction, training, and ongoing liturgical formation for all of those participating in a parish liturgical ministry. Your ministry will involve some time commitment for training and formation, weekly or once a year.  If you are interested in participating in any of the liturgical ministries described below, please contact Laura Baltrusaitis, Music Director at (302) 658-1069.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS & CHILDREN 
This process provides adults with information about the beliefs of our Faith.  The group meets once a week on Sundays October through April for an instruction on one of our beliefs of the Catholic Faith.
Adults beginning the process are free at any time to discontinue the study.  There is no cost for participating and there are no academic tests needed during the process.  For more information about this program contact the Religious Education Office.
